Lawmaker Defends First Amendment Rights Applause to Rep. Billy Tauzin, R-La., who is asking the Federal Communications Commission for answers to 33 questions on a commission action he believes will suppress of religious programming. Thank your Representative Tauzin for taking action of the side of freedom! It almost makes me take back the things I've said about congressmen. The Money Gap An editorial in the NY Post argues that the standard of living for both rich and poor has raised in the past years, rather than the poor becoming poorer and the rich becoming richer. The writer's reasoning is that those who would say the gap between the classes is widening don't consider things like medicare, medicaid, food stamps, earned income credit and social security as income. Indeed I don't! Those types of programs provide handouts in a welfare state, and do not provide the dignity of earned wages! This idea of "sharing the wealth" as a mandate of government is communism, and I hardly think it closes the gap between the Haves and the Have-nots. Handouts deprive the poor the dignity of standing on their own two feet, having the sense of accomplishment in their labor. This is perhaps the most evil result of the welfare state America has become. Taking only earned wages into account the gap between the rich and the poor is indeed widening. The poor work minimum wage jobs while CEO's and politicians add to their own pockets, tossing scraps to the workers who make them rich! Give General Shelton a Hand! General Hugh Shelton, the United States' top military officer, says the country must make sparing use of its armed forces around the world as it seeks to protect its national interests. He was giving a speech on January 19, 2000 at Harvard University's Kennedy School of Government. Explaining his views with a meaningful metaphor, General Shelton said, ``The military makes a great hammer in the American foreign policy toolbox, and a very powerful hammer I might add, but every problem we face is not a nail." I suppose the Commander in Chief wasn't listening to this speech, being a Yale man. He might have taken some lessons from what the general was saying. It's time we stop thinking we can police the world with our military, turning the United States into an unofficial imperial dictatorship! My applause goes out to General Shelton for an intelligent and eloquent address! Moving the Flag South Carolina Governor Jim Hodges says it's time to move the Confederate battle flag from the capitol. It should fly high and free there. Why? Because it represents the ancestry and historical heritage of the people of that state, a reminder of what has passed. It is an old cliche but true that the people who forget their past are doomed to repeat it. Flags mean different things to different people. The Confederate battle flag is to me a reminder that the federal government was never intended to be more powerful than the states, and that the union was preserved over the will of many states only by brute force in a bloody war that never should have been. To those who have been taught the history as written by the victors, that flag is about slavery and oppression. The victors wouldn't dare admit that it was about the right of a people to throw off their government and form a new government of their own. Read my articles on the Confederate battle flag and the Civil War. When the flag comes down, tyranny will have won again. Applause to Laura Bush, First Lady of Texas, for stating that the flag represents an important part of history, is not about slavery, and should be flown! More than Enough! In a recent fund raising letter Giuliani said that Hillary Clinton is only using the Senate seat as a stepping stone to the presidency. The letter went on to say that eight years of the Clintons in Washington has been more than enough. I couldn't agree more! Thank you Mr. Giuliani for expressing the views of countless Americans! Portrait of a Crime In Richmond VA a public portrait of Gen. Robert E. Lee was set on fire on the state holiday honoring the Confederate military leader. Perhaps burning the portrait of Lee was the way these thugs chose to lower themselves to the tactics of the KKK. Is it their version of a burning cross on the lawn? Would someone tell me what makes them different than their imagined oppressors? The only point they got across to me is that they are prone to violence, have committed a crime, and rather than trying to build society up to greater things, are destructive and therefore dangerous. It is my hope that someone will find those fools and lock them up in a cold dark cell. Sex and Drug Questions Out of Bounds? Hillary Clinton told a radio talk show host this week that questions about sex and drugs are out of bounds when asked if she had ever been unfaithful to her husband and if she had ever used drugs. Madame First Lady, character counts! If these questions make you uncomfortable you have no business running for office. We have seen enough of illicit sex and drug use in the Whitehouse from your ilk these past years to make a whorehouse madame blush! We the People deserve the right to know the character of the candidates when we go to the voting booth. The very asking of the questions is evidence that it is something the people want to know about and you should consider that a mandate to answer honestly. My opinion is that when you said no about ever cheating on Bill, you were lying. I wouldn't have expected an honest answer on that one anyway since it is apparent that you don't care much about fidelity in marriage and your only goal is to win an election at all costs now. As for the drug question, if I was married to Bill Clinton I would be taking drugs everyday to help me forget! That's because I believe character does count! |
