"We're told that the right to be left alone is the most comprehensive of all rights, as a right most cherished by civilized people."

RICH'S RANTS

Arise, arise, the BATF are coming.

The program was divided up into two major sections. First the dedication of the new building. They'd break at noon, to honor their fallen comrades at the exact time of day the inferno was raged thru Mt Carmel, and finish up with their invited guest speakers. The audience included people of all ages, seniors, middle-aged people and a smattering of children. Many cell phones were in evidence. Teenagers had cell phones. Regular folks. Regular families.

The Dedication. The program was started with music played by the songwriter, accompanied by Davidian Survivor/author David Thibideu on the drums: "What we all need. We need love". Later in the program, musician C J Harper sang a song to Sheila Martin, who lost her Harvard educated husband and 4 children in the blaze. By the time CJ got thru singing "Even Now" there wasn't a dry eye in the bldg. My personal favorite, "Where are the Children" is a folk song written for an acoustical guitar on 4/23/93, which would do Woodie Guthrie proud. Music, which was a big part of the church before the fire was a new side of the Davidians for me to witness. Perhaps this is a sign of the Davidians recovery.

The presence of several people, especially media types, including Dallas Morning News' Lee Hancock, were recognized for their good works in their chosen profession. This portion of the service ended when the key was turned over to Clive Doyle, their current leader.

Alex Jones introduced the first guest speaker, George Pulliam, who designed the church. Alex spearheaded the fund drive raising $93,626.43 in 7 weeks time recd from 43 states and 2 countries, Canada and Australia. Their slogan was "You burn it. We build it." And build it they did, on the subsequent 32 Sundays. That might not compete with parting the Red Sea, but in this day and age, I suspect it qualifies as another of God's miracles.

At that point, most of the mass media fled the building, so they didn't hear the Liberty Bell chime 86 times, for those who died on Feb 29 & April 19. After each gong, Mr Doyle would give the age and place of birth of the departed. And like in 1998, the honor was extended to include their 4 BATF attackers who lost their lives that day. At one point, when Mr Doyle was reading the names of family members that perished, he had to stop. Two women, obviously Davidians, rushed to each side, and supported him in silent prayer, while the audience, no, by this time, we had become the congregation, patiently waited in sympathy.

Missing from the ceremony was Sarah Baines, whom I heard speak in 1998. Mrs Baines, the jury forelady at the Davidian Trial, was there to tell us the Judge Smith, the same con man currently running the secret FLIR tests at Mt Hood, corrupted the jury's decision. Basically, the accused Davidians were all charged with murder, conspiracy to commit murder, and using a deadly weapon in a violent crime. The Jury found all the Davidians not guilty by reason of self defense, but did find them guilty of possessing weapons. The defense lawyers argued, that since they were found not guilty on the first 2 charges, they couldn't be found guilty of using a gun in the commission of a crime, BECAUSE THERE WAS NO CRIME---and the judge agreed---briefly. Instead of calling the jury back for clarification, the trial was retired in expectation of a complete acquittal, but when they reconvened, the govt lawyers changed Smith's mind, and he sentenced them to the maximum, and then added more. In all, he sentenced 7 victims who were found to have used weapons in self defense in his court room, 40 years each, while the perps from whom they were defending themselves went Scot-free, and are free to this day. One of the victims, Fagan Livingstone, Mr Doyle told us, has been in fedl solitary for nearly all of these 7 yrs because he steadfastly refuses to sign a paper allowing the govt to deduct fines, restitution, and room & board from his prison wages (because he feels, in so doing, he would be admitting guilt). What was that Sir Thomas Moore quote in A Man For All Seasons, he protests too much?

Part 2. USAF General Benton Barker was another high profile speaker. Like many of us, he saw a pattern between the many govt conspiracies the media chides us for holding. He claimed his evidence showed that TWA 800 was shot down by a special missile that terminated the plane in flight, cutting the nose of the plane from the rest of the body. His evidence also showed that the explosion by the Hertz fertilizer truck could not have inflicted the damage the Murrah building sustained. And, he also said that the Mt Carmel church vault was blown apart by detonating an explosive set on top of the fortified room. He could tell by inspecting the rebar. (That's the steel rods that reinforce contained in much concrete.) Had the explosion occurred above the tomb, it would have cracked the concrete roof and rebar, but because the rebar was intact, it indicated the explosive, most likely a plastic explosive, was setting ON the roof, sending shock waves thru the concrete, turning it to powder, leaving the rebar intact. The general was much more specific than I can remember.

He was followed by David Hardy and Ramsey Clark, taking up the rear. (Who in his right mind would want to follow Ramsey Clark on stage?) Hardy came prepared with an FBI tape obtained thru the FOIA, disproving the govt cover story that they were ambushed. On the tape you could hear Wayne Martin and David Koresh (who was remarkably calm) calling for a cease fire from the get go. Hardly the words you'd expect from conspirators who just laid an ambush for a 100 man raiding party. "There's women and children in here,' they pleaded in vain. The BATF did not pull back until they ran out of ammunition. There was more, much more, but really, you had to be there to know what I have come to learn. Mark your calendar now. Circle April 19, 2001, and write "attend 8th at Waco." It's a Thursday.

It was 3:30 in the afternoon, when we left the church. (By the way, it is the only church I've ever attended that didn't pass the hat.) Many of the media trucks who's people left with their cameras hours earlier, were still in the VIP parking lot. Some had attune stuck on 50 foot poles. Some taller. Others had giant saucer-type dishes atop them. Channel 4 out of San Antonio; Texas Cable News Network; KCEV-TV; KVUE news, channel 6; KXAN channel 36; and Channel 10, News Live, were all sitting idle.

Thought for the day: The building was burned with military precision. Was it a signal fire for God's Army we saw?
