Land of the free, Home of the brave... One Nation Under God.
Sometimes it's hard for me to believe that those particular phrases were
written about the mighty United States Of America. United States... Are we
really United? The state legislatures work together as long as there is a
common interest. But then what is a federal government all about?
Control...
When the Constitution was originally written we were 13 states. Now we are
50 and it seems our power as a people is diminishing. Even though We The
People vote for the laws that would best suit us, it seems that we are still
subjected to the laws that would keep our federal government in control. Our
Constitution was written to give sovereignty to each of the states as opposed
to the
federal government.
If Texas is its own Republic, then why does it function as a dependent of the
Union? Shouldn't Texas laws be supreme to the US Government? Shouldn't
Texans subject criminals to the punishment of local laws before being
subjected to federal laws? Texas is not exactly known as The Humane
State... Capital punishment is quickly becoming a standard practice for the
most severe of crimes, but then who determines these crimes to be the most
severe. That would be The Supreme Court, would it not? But The Supreme
Court
is a federal institution. Sounds kinda fishy to me.
Now there is talk of the secession of Arizona. It seems that Texas is not
the only state opening its eyes.
The Arizona state legislature has approved a resolution calling for
dissolution
of the federal government in the event that (1) the U.S. Constitution is
abolished, (2) martial law is established, or (3) firearms are confiscated.
Sounds to me like that state has its priorities straight. They're
protecting themselves by protecting the rights of the citizens.
One by one, the sovereign states of our mighty Union are beginning to grow
into sovereign republics like children growing up and moving away from
home.
Are we outgrowing our government, or is our government becoming a tyranny?
Most important, are the respective states ready to become sovereign
republics? I think the answer may be closer at hand than many people are
ready to admit.
