The FBI Megiddo Project

It was 1999 and the world waited to see what would happen when the clock rolled over to the year 2000. The U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) had been working on a report concerning various groups and possible violence that could occur in a variety of scenarios when 2000 came. This was named Project Megiddo, and a report of their findings was released to the public in the fall of 1999.

The FBI report defines a militia group and provides some history of the movement. "The majority of growth within the militia movement occurred during the 1990s. There is not a simple definition of how a group qualifies as a militia. However, the following general criteria can be used as a guideline: (1) a militia is a domestic organization with two or more members; (2) the organization must possess and use firearms; and (3) the organization must conduct or encourage paramilitary training. Other terms used to describe militias are Patriots and Minutemen." One small error in this section is a failure to differentiate between Militia and Patriots. Not all militia are patriots and not all patriots are militia. According to the FBI definition here, I would not be a militia member since I possess no firearms, but I am a Patriot. There is often an overlapping of the groups, but a distinction should be made and it should be noted that there are Patriots who seek a restoration of our freedom who are not part of militia groups. We often work within the system in an attempt to restore a Constitutional government and discuss the issues in an effort to inform and educate others about what is happening to our nation.

The result of making the Megiddo Report public was mass anxiety and concern with the public. Since most people still believe what the government tells them, they were quick to feel that some radical extremist militia groups were going to cause trouble and violence when the year 2000 arrived. This was far from the truth, but it is the portion of the Megiddo Report that was released to the press. However, not seen in newspapers around the country is the section of the Megiddo Report that states, "Law enforcement personnel should be aware of the fact that the majority of militias are reactive, as opposed to proactive. Reactive militia groups are generally not a threat to law enforcement or the public. These militias may indeed believe that some type of NWO scenario may be imminent in the year 2000, but they are more inclined to sit back and wait for it to happen. They will stockpile their guns and ammunition and food, and wait for the government to curtail their liberties and take away their guns. When the expected NWO tragedy does not take place, these reactive militias will simply continue their current activities, most of which are relatively harmless. They will not overreact to minor disruptions of electricity, water and other public services."

The foolishness of releasing a report that would cause anxiety and worry among the masses who believe their rhetoric is unconscionable, particularly while the FBI knew otherwise! The report also declares, " . . . the majority of militia groups are non-violent and only a small segment of the militias actually commit acts of violence to advance their political goals and beliefs." It amazes me that the message given to the public was that these groups are radical elements prepared to cause violence at the drop of a pin!

According to the Megiddo Report, "Militia anxiety and paranoia specifically relating to the year 2000 are based mainly on a political ideology, as opposed to religious beliefs. Many militia members believe that the year 2000 will lead to political and personal repression enforced by the United Nations and countenanced by a compliant U.S. government. This belief is commonly known as the New World Order (NWO) conspiracy theory (see Chapter I, Introduction). Other issues which have served as motivating factors for the militia movement include gun control, the incidents at Ruby Ridge (1992) and Waco (1993), the Montana Freemen Standoff (1996) and the restriction of land use by federal agencies." I would add the Oklahoma City Bombing to this list and there are others. What the FBI did not do is deny any wrongdoing in any of those events. They do not deny illegal gun control is taking place, that the "incidents" at Ruby Ridge involved the murder of a woman with a babe in arms, that there was a mass murder they participated in at Waco, or that the Montana Freemen were abused by federal powers, or that federal agencies illegally and unconstitutionally have denied the rights to private property to citizens. They simply state that the actions of the federal government agencies, to include the FBI who published this report, are responsible for citizens rising up against them and arming themselves if the time comes to defend themselves against a tyrannical government that has begun an undeclared war on its citizens. Thank you, writers of the Megiddo Report for your honesty!

Y2K was seen as a possible fuse for martial law by many patriot, militia, and survivalist groups and individuals. The government fueled this view at every turn, first denying any problem and then as the time approached publishing reports of expected disruptions of businesses, services and utilities. President Bill Clinton found time between his liaisons with interns to sign executive orders for FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency) to take over in the event these things happened, to suspend the Constitution, and to use the military to enforce it. This led to leaders of various groups and organizations telling their people to prepare for the worst.

The government started this mess in the first place and then labeled these people as paranoid in their report. The Megiddo Report discusses some leaders saying, "Similarly, The New American, an organ of the ultraconservative John Birch Society, speculates that the Y2K bug could be America's Reichstag fire, a reference to the 1933 arson attack on Germany's Parliament building that was used by Hitler as an excuse to enact police state laws. Similar to this train of thought, Norm Olson, leader of the Northern Michigan Regional Militia, believes constitutional rights probably will be suspended before the real crisis hits. He states: ‘It will be the worst time for humanity since the Noahic flood.'" Please see Norm Olson's response to the Megiddo Project.

These beliefs were begun intentionally by the government which then points to these honest citizens and calls them "paranoid." Apparently, when he signed those executive orders, Bill Clinton knew it would not happen because he was having another sex party in the White House on New Year's Eve, something witnessed by his secret servicemen as they did rounds and found people having orgies in various rooms while the Clintons were dancing in the ballroom getting their photo opportunities for the press. So why did he sign them if it was not to manipulate those groups of people who recognize the erosion of our Constitutional rights and are prepared to deal with traitors who perpetrate this outrage?

The Megiddo Report states, " It should be clearly stated that the FBI only focuses on radical elements of the militia movement capable and willing to commit violence against government, law enforcement, civilian, military and international targets. In addition, any such investigation of these radical militia units must be conducted within strict legal parameters." If the focus is only on those groups, why were tanks, flame throwers, the DELTA FORCE comprising essentially an army brought in against people who had committed no acts of violence at Waco, defying the Constitution and other laws? Why did your murderous sniper shoot an unarmed woman who was holding her baby at Ruby Ridge only to be honored by your organization of thugs for this act of violence on an innocent citizen rather than be duly punished under the law? You will never answer these questions with any honesty because if you did the populace would rise up against you and militia groups would be the least of your problems.

There is one comfort I have . . . That you and your ilk will one day stand before God and give an account of your actions. I don't believe that God is concerned if you followed our Constitutional laws in your activities, but I KNOW that murder is high on his list of those condemned to Hell. May you feel the flames the children of Waco died in.
