Old meaning:
A jury consisting of people of the same civil rank or standing as the person
on trial. Intellegent, unbiased citizens aware of the laws of the land.
New meaning:
People carefully hand-picked to favor the government and oppose the
defendent. Usually, housewives or men without jobs. Often non-professional,
uneducated people who's contact with the world is through their tv.

Stated purpose:
To protect the public from harm, stop crime and keep the peace. To uphold
the law of the land without bias.
Covert purpose:
The enforcement arm of the State to protect government from the public, keep
the public submissive and under control, and collect revenue to King George's
"standing armies" in the Colonies before the War of Independence.
